All Saints On Calvary Hill Anglican Church Prepares for Faith Alive in January 2024
A Pastoral Letter on the Establishment of The Community of the Good Shepherd of the West Indies in the Diocese (CGSWI)
The Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands will hold Lenten Mission 2024 under the theme “FOR THE BEAUTY OF THE EARTH – Environmental Stewardship in the 21st Century.” The Lenten Mission takes place in four locations across the Diocese beginning on Ash Wednesday (February 14th) and continuing through Monday, February 26th.
- February 14 – 16: Church of The Ascension, Grand Bahama
- February 18 – 20: Holy Trinity Activities Centre, New Providence
- February 22nd – 23: St. Monica’s Church, Providenciales
- February 25 – 26: St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Grand Turk
The Missioner is the Rev. Dr. John Rogers, Rector of St. George’s Parish Church, Barbados. He holds a BSc in Natural Sciences, a BA in Theology and an MPhil in Theology from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados, and a PhD in Old Testament Studies from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. He has served as a priest in Barbados for 22 years in various assignments. He is now Rector of St. George’s Parish Church, Rural Dean of the St. John’s Deanery, and a lecturer at Codrington Theological College, the Provincial Seminary of the Anglican Province of the West Indies. He serves as an independent, appointed Senator in the Barbados Parliament. Dr. John has a passion for social justice, the rights and protection of children, the development of local culture, and the protection of the environment.
The theme for the Lenten Mission is also the Diocese’s theme for 2024. The theme was chosen because The Bahamas and The Turks and Caicos Islands are small-island states heavily impacted by climate change like so many states across the globe. Events such as hurricanes and the gradual warming of waters, which affect plant and animal life, have devastating effects. This reality will continue to affect the planet more and more in the future.
God made this earth and saw that it was good (Genesis 1:1, 31). A part of our basic Christian duty is taking care of creation and ensuring it lasts for as long as possible. The Lenten Mission will challenge hearers to think more seriously about God during Lent, get their spiritual houses in order, draw closer to God, and love our sisters and brothers more. The Mission will also call us to be faithful to God’s mandate to care for this earth now and to preserve it for future generations.
