The Anglican Diocese Announces Strategic Leadership Changes within the Central Education Authority

In alignment with the mission of the Church, as articulated in Matthew 28:19-20, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations…,” the Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands is pleased to share a series of leadership transitions within its educational body, The Anglican Central Education Authority (ACEA). These changes reflect our continued commitment to fostering holistic educational environments that nurture students’ and educators’ spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being.

Alphonso Major

Effective July 1, 2024, Mr. Alphonso Major Jr. assumed the Director of Anglican Education role, succeeding Mrs. Italia Davies, who retires after nineteen years of dedicated service to the ACEA. Mr. Major, an experienced educator with a strong service history at St. Anne’s School, is well-prepared to lead our schools into a new era of excellence and unity.

“Our schools have always been more than just places of academic instruction—they are communities of faith and learning where the mind, body, and spirit are nurtured in tandem,” said Bishop Laish Boyd. “As we continue to fulfill our mission to ‘make disciples,’ we must ensure that our students and teachers are supported holistically, particularly in these challenging times. Mr. Major’s focus on unity and mental wellness will be instrumental in achieving this goal.”

In addition to appointing a new Director, the ACEA is implementing strategic principal transfers across several schools. These changes are designed to capitalize on the strengths of our most experienced leaders, enabling them to bring their expertise to new environments, thereby enhancing educational outcomes across our entire system.

Among the key appointments:

- Mrs. Junann Lewis will transition from St. John’s College to Principal at St. Anne’s School, where her proven leadership will guide the school through its next chapter of growth.
- Mr. Quinn McCartney will move from St. Anne’s School to lead St. John’s College as Principal, bringing a fresh perspective and innovative leadership to the school.
- Mr. G. Leon Mars will join the administrative team at St. John’s College as Vice Principal of the Preparatory Department after four successful years as Principal of St. Andrew’s Anglican School in Exuma. His experience will be invaluable in supporting the school’s mission of academic excellence.
- Mrs. Tamara Moncur will assume the role of Principal at St. Andrew’s Anglican School, where her leadership will continue to inspire students and staff.
- Mrs. Cynthia Wells will take on the role of Principal at Bishop Michael Eldon School in Freeport, Grand Bahama. With over 30 years of service to the ACEA, Mrs. Wells is a seasoned educator whose leadership will undoubtedly continue to enrich the school community.

These transitions are part of a broader strategy to promote continuous improvement, foster innovation, and build a more robust, cohesive school system where each school can thrive.
