
Keith Cartwright
He was ordained as a Deacon on June 18, 1981, and as a Priest on June 24, 1982.
The Venerable Keith Cartwright began his educational journey at St. John’s College before attending Codrington College in Barbados to further discern his vocation. At Codrington, Cartwright was an active student leader, serving as the Head of the College’s Student Body. He completed his Diploma in Theological Studies with Honours and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theology with Honours from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, in 1980. Cartwright continued his academic pursuits, enrolling in Graduate School at the University of Miami, where he earned a Master of Science in Education in 1982.
Fr. Cartwright was ordained to the Diaconate on June 18, 1981, at his home church, St. Agnes Anglican Church, by the late Rt. Rev. Bishop Michael Hartley Eldon. He was ordained to the Priesthood on June 24, 1982, at Christ Church Cathedral in Nassau, Bahamas, on the Feast of St. John the Baptist.
Fr. Cartwright’s ministry has spanned various roles and locations within the Diocese of the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. His early ministry included assisting in the establishment of the Church of the Ascension in Lucaya, Grand Bahama (1980-1981), and serving alongside The Venerable Archdeacon Foster B. Pestiana at Christ the King Church in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Cartwright also served as a teacher, Assistant Chaplain, and later Chaplain at the Freeport (Anglican) High School from 1980 to 1984.
From 1984 to 1992, he served as the Rector of St. Andrew’s Parish in Exuma and as Parish Priest of the Church of the Holy Innocents in Ragged Island. During this time, he was appointed Rural Dean of the South Central Bahamas (1985-1992). Cartwright’s leadership continued as he became the Archdeacon of the Northern Bahamas (1992-1996) and later served as the Rector of Christ the King Parish in Freeport, Grand Bahama (1992-1998).
In 1998, Fr. Cartwright became the Archdeacon of the Southern Bahamas, including the Turks and Caicos Islands, a role he continues to hold today. From 1998 to 2019, he served as the Rector of St. Christopher’s Church in Lyford Cay, New Providence. Most recently, Fr. Cartwright has served as the Parish Priest of St. Agnes Anglican Church since 2019.
Through his dedicated service in various parishes and leadership roles, Archdeacon Cartwright has made significant contributions to the spiritual and community life of the Diocese, continuing to inspire and guide through his ministry.
