Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands Congratulates Archbishop Philip S. Wright on Service of Recognition

The Anglican Diocese of The Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands extends heartfelt congratulations to the Most Reverend Philip S. Wright, B.A., M.A., OBE, Bishop of Belize, on the occasion of his Service of Recognition as Archbishop, Primate and Metropolitan of the Church in the Province of the West Indies, held on Sunday, 26 April 2026, at the Belize Civic Centre, Belize City.

The Service of Recognition marked the formal acknowledgment of Archbishop Wright’s new office within the life of the Province, as he assumes responsibility as chief pastor and spiritual leader among the eight dioceses that comprise the Church in the Province of the West Indies, including The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands. He now serves as Primate of a Province that brings together Anglicans from The Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, the North Eastern Caribbean and Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands.

Representing the Diocese of The Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands at the liturgy was our Diocesan Bishop, the Right Reverend Laish Boyd, who joined bishops, clergy, laity and civic leaders from across the Province in giving thanks for Archbishop Wright’s ministry and committing to uphold him in prayer as he undertakes this expanded role of leadership and service. Bishop Boyd’s presence at the Belize Civic Centre underlined the close bonds of fellowship, shared mission and mutual support that unite the dioceses of the Province at this significant moment in our common life.

As Archbishop, Primate and Metropolitan, Archbishop Wright will chair the House of Bishops and preside over the Provincial Synod and Standing Committee, guiding the theological and missional direction of the Church in the Province of the West Indies. In this capacity, he will represent the Province within the wider Anglican Communion, participate in global Anglican councils, and serve as a principal voice for Caribbean Anglican witness on matters of justice, reconciliation, education and social development.

The Diocese of The Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands invites all clergy and people to remember Archbishop Wright and his family in prayer, and to give thanks for this new chapter in the Province’s history. We also ask the faithful to continue to pray for Bishop Boyd and all who labor together for the strengthening of our common witness, that under Archbishop Wright’s leadership we may grow in unity, deepen our discipleship, and serve Christ with renewed faith and purpose across our islands and throughout the Caribbean.
