The Reverend Jamal Turnquest began his early education at Lower Deadman’s Cay Primary School in Long Island, The Bahamas, and later attended Stephen Dillet Primary School in Nassau. He completed his secondary education at R. M. Bailey Secondary High School.

Answering a call to deeper theological formation, he pursued studies at the University of the West Indies and Codrington College in Barbados, both renowned institutions within the Anglican Communion dedicated to theological education and ministerial preparation.

Before ordination, Jamal faithfully served the Church in numerous lay capacities. His ministry included service as a member of the Vestry, Lay Minister, Youth Leader, and Church Youth Movement (CYM) Advisor, as well as participation in the Altar Guild ministry. Deeply passionate about youth development, he also assisted in the parish’s Scout Troop, demonstrating leadership, mentorship, and a commitment to Christian formation among young people.

Through these roles, he cultivated a reputation for dedicated service, humility, and a pastoral heart, qualities that continue to guide his ordained ministry.

Deacon Turnquest was ordained to the sacred order of Deacons in the Anglican Church in the Province of the West Indies, committing himself to a life of service, proclamation of the Gospel, and ministry to those in need. His formation has been marked by faithfulness, intellectual curiosity, and a deep love for the people of God.

Rev. Turnquest lives by the guiding words of Philippians 4:6, which continue to inform his ministry and personal devotion:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”
