Anglicans Across the Diocese Invited to Worship with Provincial Delegates This Sunday

The Anglican Diocese of the Bahamas & The Turks & Caicos Islands is pleased to announce that the Rt. Rev. Philip Silvin Wright, Bishop of Belize, has been elected as the new Archbishop, Primate, and Metropolitan of the Church in the Province of the West Indies. This Diocese is one of eight dioceses that comprise the Province.
During the 42nd Triennial Provincial Synod in New Providence, The Bahamas, delegates from across the Province met on Monday, November 10, 2025, in a process of prayerful discernment and election. Bishop Wright was duly elected and will now assume the leadership of the Province.
The Most Reverend Philip Silvin Wright, OBE, becomes the first Belizean to hold this distinguished position. Born in Belize City on February 10, 1967, Archbishop Wright has served as the 14th Bishop of the Diocese of Belize since 2005. His episcopate has been shaped by thoughtful leadership, sound teaching, and an abiding concern for the spiritual and social well-being of the people of his diverse dioceses.
He was educated at Codrington College in Barbados and the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He is widely recognized for his depth of understanding, balanced perspective, and ability to bring people together across differences within both church and society.
An influential figure within the global Anglican Communion, Archbishop Wright is one of eight regional Presidents of the World Council of Churches, representing Latin America and the Caribbean. He also serves as President of the Belize Council of Churches, where he promotes meaningful engagement between church and nation on issues such as education, social development, and justice.
His election reflects the esteem in which he is held throughout the region and beyond. As he assumes the role of Primate, Archbishop Wright brings with him a steady devotion to the life and mission of the Church.
During this period of transition, the Provincial Secretariat invites all dioceses, clergy, lay leaders, congregations, and ministries to keep Archbishop Wright and his wife, Carla, in your prayers as a family as he undertakes this new responsibility. May his leadership be marked by discernment, courage, and grace as he guides the Church in the Province of the West Indies into its next chapter.
